- Hi. I'm a resit student just going into third year so I had to wait til today to enrol but I can't even get past the first login page as I can'r remember any of my login details. I tried my PC Cal username and clicked "forgot login", and did the same with my registration number but had no luck. I also tried my person number from my student card but it came up with "Security Question is not setup" which I'm pretty sure I did. Iv registered to vote at home but I ignored the letters I got this year when i moved into my flat asking me if i want to register. Im not going to be able to go home to vote so what will be my best bet? registering for Edinburgh? Postal? or can i vote in the uni?

Sam as a student you are eligible to be registered at both your home address and your term time address.
This means you can register in Edinburgh but still vote at home if you get the chance, however you can only vote once and in one place, so my advice to you is to register in Edinburgh so that you dont miss your chance to vote.
Alternatively have you looked into postal voting, could be handy if you want to vote in your home constituent but cant actually be there in person to do it

Sam, I'm doing the postal voting thing. It's easy, just get the form of the electoral website, fill it out and send it back and that's you sorted. :)

Hi everyone,
Just to clarify the registration process.
Firstly, go to www.aboutmyvote.co.uk , the process is very simple: complete the registration and post it. You have until 20th April before registration closes, so if you haven't done it yet, DO IT TODAY!
There is an additional application process for a postal vote, the website will take you through it.
You can register in both your 'home' constituency and your 'term-time' one. According to the website: 'Students may be entitled to register at both their home address and their university address, but can only vote once to the same elected chamber or position.'
This means that you are meant to then select in which constituency you wish to cast your vote in the election.
However, there is a lack of transparency in the British system and since registration and voting records are held locally, there appears to be no measures to stop double voting. I am not advocating breaking the rules, but there is a clear anomaly in the process.
The election will take place on 6th May, with voting taking place throughout the day.
I would also urge all students to sign up to the NUS Vote For Students campaign:
www.voteforstudents.co.uk/scottish
This has 2 benefits. Firstly, you will receive updates nearer the election, informing you what your local candidates have promised to deliver and details of marginal seats. If you are registered in 2 constituencies, this will let you know in which area your vote will make the most difference.
Secondly, it allows us to put pressure on local candidates, forcing the major parties to reveal what they plan for the Higher Education sector in the next 5 years. With the prospect of top-up fees looming ever greater, this will have a massive impact on all of us.
Whoever you choose to support, get out there and get involved. If you've complained about anything over the last few years, this is your opportunity to hold ALL politicians to account.
The main party manifestos can be reached here:
LABOUR www.labour.org.uk
CONSERVATIVE www.conservatives.com
LIBERAL DEMOCRATS www.libdems.org.uk
SCOTTISH NATIONAL PARTY www.snp.org
GREEN www.greenparty.org.uk
There are some websites which allow you to compare policies through quizzes etc. - eg. voteforpolicies.org.uk
These can be useful, but remember that you may wish to align your vote with core principals instead.
Enjoy!

I gpt my postal vote and cards - received two. Now the general election card only gave me the option of voting for the main parties? I was hoping to vote for bnp? Why is this?
