Will they raise the cap in England?!

17 March 2009

Lot's of you will have the seen the lead story on the BBC website today announcing that 2/3 of University Vice-Chancellors (Principals) in England want the Cap to come off top-up fees in England...

So waht does this mean? Well, for students down in England it means that if they were to get rid of the cap completely then Universities down south could charge as much as they liked for tuition fees! To cover these fees many students would take out extremely high student loans and would end up in ridiculously high amounts of debt!

And for students in Scotland? Well, at the moment Scottish students don't have to pay any kind of tuition fees. However, if the fees in England are raised to such a high level then Scottish institutions will be left woefully behind financially and they will not be able to compete with institutions down south. This will mean an extremely high amount of pressure to be put on Scottish Universities, and before we know it Scottish Universities will be charging tuition fees as well.

THis is such a serious threat to future student generations.

It looks like next eyar there is going to be a lot of work and campaigning to do to fight VC's raising the cap in England!
